The Delta High School speech team hosted eight Western Slope schools at the annual Panther Invitational Speech Meet on Saturday, Feb. 8. Several Delta team members did very well, with debaters leading the way.
Taking first place in public forum debate was the team of Ridge Green and Anthony Streich with an undefeated 3-0 record. Also undefeated with a 3-0 record in Lincoln-Douglas debate was Cidney Fisk, who took second place in that event.
Original oratory continues to be a strong category for Delta, with Cidney Fisk placing second and Hannah Owens taking third place. In national extemporaneous speaking Anthony Streich placed fourth.
In interpretive events, Alysha and Ayasha Richards placed second in duo interpretation of literature. Ayasha Richards also took second place in dramatic interpretation of literature, while Alysha Richards placed fourth in poetry.
Delta was not eligible for a sweepstakes trophy as it was their home meet, but had they been eligible, they would have won a sweepstakes trophy for the fifth meet in a row.
The team will compete Feb. 14 and 15 at Central High School in the National Qualifying Congress, which will select students to compete at the National Student Congress in Kansas City in June 2014.blog comments powered by Disqus
