The first day of school 13 backpacks prepared with necessary school supplies were delivered to Paonia Elementary for children in need.
The Xi Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, an international women's social organization, recently adopted this effort as their pet project in the North Fork area.
"This is the first year the project has been attempted," commented Candy Wuollet, service committee chairwoman. "But we are hoping to expand next year to the remainder of the North Fork."
The idea was conceived by fellow member Jackie Parks. A list was obtained by contacting the school, but recipients remained anonymous and were only designated by gender and grade. The group obtained supply lists and shopped, selected backpacks and organized supplies.
Among those who made this project a reality were Jackie Parks, Michelle Lehman, Candy Wuollet, Myrna Westerman, Barb Limone, Ginger Fisher, Gio Garver, Billie Kiger, Corrie Stroud, Janice Madariaga, Judy Anderson, Judy Livingston, Kathy Welt, Marjorie True, Tamara Pearce and Terri Clark.blog comments powered by Disqus
