If you think Mr. Olen Lund will represent you (North Fork Valley) on the DMEA board of directors, I urge you to think again. I was active in the opposition to an application for a gravel strip mine (SD12-004 M & L Gravel Pit) near Crawford in late 2012.
At the Board of County Commissioners' (BOCC) meeting Dec. 3, 2012, approximately 50 or more (mostly) residents of the North Fork Valley eloquently and rationally spoke in opposition to the application and none, with the exception of the applicant, spoke in favor. At the Crawford APC and the Delta County Planning Commission meetings, similar numbers of opposition comments were made with only one comment at each meeting in favor. On Dec. 17, 2012, the BOCC voted 2-1 to reject the gravel strip mine application. Who was the North Fork Valley "representative" on the BOCC? None other than Olen Lund. And he "represented" his constituents by being the one vote in favor of accepting the application. So, if you haven't already cast your vote for the DMEA board of directors election, please do so before June 13. And think again about whether Mr. Lund would represent you.
