As a citizen and business owner of Cedaredge I would like to comment on the Main Street improvement that is happening in Cedaredge. First let me point out that I personally have no problem with the project, however I do question the timing of the beginning of this project.
Business is hard enough in this town and to dig up the entire Main Street during tourist season is totally absurd. I question why this project was started in March through June, or after Apple-Fest through December. I understand the town administration wants this done for AppleFest. I get that, but that is only two days of revenue for the town. I can't even imagine just opening a business on Main Street (The Wagon Wheel and Dream Weaver, for example). How do you expect these new businesses to survive this four-month process?
Oh yes, I know, there is parking in back of some businesses, but most are not equipped with that option. I had to use Sunset Print Works last week and had to park over by the Baptist Church, climb over dirt and around large concrete pipes. The owners said half their business is walk-in and older people, the other half is computer-savvy and just sends what they need electronically.
As we all know this community is made up of an older population. A lot of these people cannot get around and certainly are not able to walk distances to get to a business. I own Shady Creek RV Park and over the last week my new in-and-out residents and old residents are laughing. They can't believe what poor timing the Town of Cedaredge has. It has been an embarrassment to say the least. Once again, I would like to stress I am not against the project, it just seems to me the timing is ridiculous.
I feel badly for the businesses on Main Street, and I just hope and pray they survive this mess. I encourage all of us to support these businesses on Main Street so they will be able to survive through this project. And to the powers that be, you should be real proud of this mess!
