Judge Patrick just issued a cease and desist order against the Hostetler chicken farm. He did that despite the state and county right to farm laws.
Goodbye any further new agricultural operations in Delta County. Say hello to further degradation and further loss of population and property values in Delta County. I want to congratulate Commissioner Bruce Hovde for forcing the Mennonites out of Delta County. He ran on preserving property values. They're down 50% already with his first term; how much lower can they go with his second term? Hovde did nothing to get rid of or reduce a runaway, out-of-control planning department subjecting the Hostetlers to double jeopardy of both egregious county specific development regulations and a legal system that has ignored state and county right-to-farm laws. This decision by Judge Patrick will only force property values down further. For a county with an aging population, the property values loss only locks them in place stopping them from moving to a simpler lifestyle as they age.
It's a matter of survival; Judge Patrick's decision must be reversed. A great deal of damage is already done. Farmers were under the illusion that there was or is a right to farm. Well forget that. You have no right to farm period, not at least in Delta County.
