Counties who say no to marijuana should not share tax revenue

Dear Editor:

The elected officials of both Delta and Crawford have spoken, at least for 56 percent of the population. They want no part of Amendment 64.

If you care about the North Fork Valley, take action

Dear Editor:

Once again we find ourselves having to protect our North Fork Valley from the gas and oil industry and the BLM as the latter renews efforts to lease thousands of acres for exploration and potential drilling right here where we live. Once more, as taxpayers and property owners, we find ourselves having to spend dozens, if not hundreds of hours, protecting ourselves from our own government.

A Christmas story

Dear Editor:

Even though I was born at the Hotchkiss Hospital and grew up in Paonia, I have since lived in East Texas and have worked on projects in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Therefore, this holiday season always reminds me of the story of the Oklahoma youngster who showed up at the Christmas pageant dressed as a wiseman with a fireman's hat.

Dear Editor:

In his Dec. 5 DCI letter to the editor, Jans Lange asks the BLM to refrain from "rolling over to attempts to halt the February BLM lease sale of 15 parcels in Delta County's North Fork Valley." Mr. Lange further states that "we as Americans need to promote the safe and environmentally sound recovery of our nationally resources."

Volunteers urgently needed for homeless shelter

Dear Editor:

Three years ago, several members of the community began a conversation about the homeless situation here in Delta County. While several people in the communities within the county would rather have ignored the situation saying there was no homeless problem here, there were a number of people who knew the problem was very much present.

BLM is determined to cram fracking down our throats

Dear Editor:

Despite the nearly unanimous opposition to possible fracking in our highly-sensitive area, the BLM unfortunately is trying to cram down our collective throats this eventuality. I suppose the BLM is likely feeling pressures from above to go after every source of revenue and every drop of gas/oil.

Industry can not be allowed to impact our health

Dear Editor:

We cannot allow industry on any level to affect the health of our communities. Industry, be it hen houses in residential neighborhoods or oil and gas or coal production, belongs in areas specifically designated for industry and not affecting our existing communities by polluting our air, water and food.

BLM, don’t be dissuaded by vocal minority

Dear Editor:

We hope the BLM refrains from rolling over to attempts to halt the North Fork Valley February 2013 gas lease sale.

I live in the North Fork Valley, actually in Paonia just across the street from a lease parcel, and hope that the lease sale goes forward; at least to the next step.
