The Orchard City trustees and mayor met in a rare executive session with Realtor Bert Sibley in December to discuss an offer the town had received on its property at Eckert.
The former county shops building has been listed for sale.
Following the executive session, trustees approved the mayor making a counter offer to a potential buyer.
Earlier this year, a contract on the property fell through when a title search uncovered problems. Those title problems have since been resolved.
In other business during its December meeting, the town board dealt with the following matters:
• The trustees postponed consideration of a proposed contract with consultant SGM on the advice of the town attorney who has suggested some changes in the document.
The town is in negotiations with SGM for two projects. One is a dynamic computer model of the town's water system that could be used to predict and plan operational details and "what if" scenarios. The other project is an automation of the water storage facilities on Tank Hill. The Tank Hill project especially is intended to help stop the high amount of treated water loss from the town's delivery system.
Trustees plan to take the SGM contract issue up for consideration again at their Jan. 9 meeting.
• The town board endorsed the planning commission's approval of a setback variance requested by Baltizar Antillon. The trustees approved a five-foot setback variance from the code-required ten feet. Trustees were told that Antillon wants to build a shed in which to store tires for his business at 905 2100 Road.
• Trustees approved a boundary adjustment comprising 327.9 square feet between the Eckert IOOF Hall and the Drost's Chocolates store. The IOOF Hall has found a buyer, it was reported, but title work on it revealed that the building had been sitting three feet over the property line.
• Community meetings will be held during January in Orchard City and Cedaredge hosted by the Grand Mesa Water Conservancy District and other agencies to discuss the impacts of the Colorado Water Compact on local water resources, and other water issues, Trustee Jimmie Boyd reported.
