‘Tech Soup’ offers helpful tips

The sessions are open to all, beginning at 11 a.m.The Cedaredge Public Library's Saturday open forum "Tech Soup" sessions have been growing in popularity, library staff reports.

A good example: last Saturday, a group of four local technophiles arrived for the 11 a.m. mutual support session.

Within minutes the number of participants had doubled.

The Tech Soup sessions have been hosted at the Cedaredge Public Library for a couple of years, say staff members. They are designed as informal support and help sessions where people with various questions about their computers and related devices can share experiences, get suggestions and try out new ideas.

But now, the town's cutting edge techies are showing up in greater numbers than ever with their pad devices and e-readers, say library staff.

Apparently, Santa was busy delivering lots of the latest high-tech toys to the luckiest good girls and boys. So, last Saturday's session was an especially lively one with lots of participants on the lookout for new tips and tricks using their mouseless and keyboardless Kindles, iPads, and other devices.

What next? Maybe a support group for folks coming together to see if they can figure out how to outsmart their smart phones.

The library's Saturday tech sessions are patron-driven. Library staff can provide support only on a time-available basis as they have many other regular duties and patrons to serve also.

The library does host twice-monthly computer classes that are more structured and instruction-based for anyone who wants more one-on-one guidance.
