Photo by Hank Lohmeyer Orchard City’s Centennial Committee has asked that the deadline be extended for those who want to place a commemorative tile on the Memorial Wall at Centennial Garden Park.There may still be time for people, organizations, businesses, and institutions who want to leave their mark on the history of Orchard City, but who missed the Dec. 31 deadline for doing so.
Space is available for six-inch by six-inch commemorative tiles on the Memorial Wall that was built as part of the town's centennial activities last year.
Centennial committee member Betty Davis told the town trustees at their Jan. 9 meeting that people in town are still interested in having tiles placed on the wall. Some, however, had just not gotten around to taking care of the detail before the Dec. 31 deadline arrived.
Davis said that some people also are confused about what the tiles are supposed to commemorate. Some think they are only for memorials to individuals, Davis explained. A survey of the 71 tiles currently displayed on the wall shows otherwise.
Some of the tiles memorialize individuals. But others are simply expressions of individual sentiments. Some are personal thanks or greetings. Others identify individuals, businesses or families who have played a role in Orchard City's history; who want to commemorate special occasions like anniversaries; or who feel compelled to place a token of their own presence during the town's centennial year. Institutions and family enterprises are present on the town's Memorial Wall.

According to information provided by town hall, the tiles can be engraved with personal messages, logos, and various artwork. One to five lines of engraving with up to 20 characters per line including spaces, is available for the $30 price. Adding a custom logo or clip art costs $6 extra.
