Delta attorney Mike Schottelkotte was named Cedaredge's municipal attorney by the town board on Jan. 17.

Schottelkotte has been the town's alternate attorney since last spring, Mayor Pat Means told the DCI.

His appointment to municipal attorney comes following Sky Fairlamb's resigning the post in December.

In other business at its Jan. 17 regular meeting, the Cedaredge Town Board dealt with the following matters:
• Resident engineer for CDOT Ron Alexander gave the trustees a report on a new budgeting protocol adopted by the road building agency. In the past, he explained, CDOT has accumulated all of the funds needed for a project before commencing work on it. In the future, CDOT will allow work on projects to begin and progress as funds become incrementally available, he explained. The program is intended to speed up completion of projects.

Alexander said that since 1990, the state's population has increased by 53 percent and traffic on state roads has increased by 57 percent, but the number of new traffic lanes constructed in the state has increased by only 2 percent over the same period.

Alexander also explained that the state's total gasoline tax of 40.4 cents per gallon (22 cents state plus 18.4 cents federal) is a bit less than the national average combined gasoline tax of 48.8 cents per gallon.

• Trustees received an annual report document from the Cedaredge Tree Board. Cedaredge has been an official Tree City U.S.A. for 18 consecutive years as designated by the National Arbor Day Foundation, the trustees were told. One of the criteria for that designation is to support an active tree board and observe National Arbor Day each year. In 2012, the national Arbor Day event was commemorated by a multiple-tree planting at the Cedaredge Public Library.

• The town board met in executive session with attorney Steven Harper to discuss a matter involving the Cook Ditch.
