Members of the Cedaredge Senior Hikers Club enjoyed an outing and hot dog roast to Roubideau Canyon recently where three of the group's octogenarians celebrated the joys of longevity by rappelling a 100-foot canyon cliff, reports club member Jude Keica.c02 rappelling3

One member of the group, Pat Barton, made the descent close enough to his own 80th milestone for friends to call it a birthday celebration.

The Senior Hikers' hot dog roast in Roubideau Canyon included a trek down into the canyon and a gathering for food and socializing.

"We also did some rappelling off the cliff face," reports Jude. "The drop was 100 feet or more down, and one of our members, Pat Barton, had just celebrated his 80th birthday."

He wasn't the only of the group's octogenarians up for a challenge that day. "Mel Edmonds and Rex Replogle, both also 80 years old, also did the rappelling," Jude explained.
