More than 150 citizens attended the first of six open house meetings sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management to provide an overview of its "Draft Resource Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement" (RMP/EIS). The RMP/EIS is intended to establish a framework for management of more than 675,800 acres of BLM lands and 971,220 acres of federal subsurface mineral estates administered by the BLM.
In 1947, the newly-formed Paonia Lions Club was looking for a way to raise money to light Dan Lawrence Field so the Paonia Eagles football team could host night games. Paonia was known for growing prize-winning fruit, so they decided to honor the cherry in a day-long celebration on Independence Day, and Cherry Days was born.
The recently reorganized Creamery Arts Center, 165 W. Bridge Street, in Hotchkiss, will celebrate its grand reopening from 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, with the opening of the center's first art show since closing its doors last summer. The show includes pottery and photography.
