The Bruins, as well as some of the 16 other teams, brought their varsity squad and several junior varsity team members to the tournament.

Bruin 106-pound freshman Austin Todd placed second. Todd lost his third match of the season when he went up against undefeated Cameron Ham of Custer County in the championship round. Todd scored an escape with 49 seconds remaining in the first period, and trailed 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Ham opened the second period with an escape, and led 6-1 after scoring a three-point near fall to end the second period. Ham, who has won 10 of his 14 matches by pin, was unable to get the best of Todd, and won by a 10-1 decision.

Todd pinned seventh-ranked Colin Hobbs of Dove Creek to advance to the championship match.

At 195 pounds, Alejandro Alejandre was 3-1 for the tournament, winning by a 5-1 decision over Manny Pedigo of Custer County to place third.

Heavyweight sophomore Tim Montano pinned Nucla's Raphael Spencer in 41 seconds to place third.

Brian Leahy placed fifth at 170 pounds after pinning Blaine Mickey of Ignacio in 1:25.

Peter Williamson was 3-2 for the tournament. Williamson (11-6, 132 pounds) pinned wrestlers from Paonia, Custer County and Ignacio and lost by technical fall to tournament champion Cole Baughman of Dove Creek. Williamson forfeited the fifth-place match due to the rule allowing wrestlers to compete in five matches in a day.

The Bruins won two duals at Friday night's Paonia Duals, defeating Dolores/Norwood, 66-12, and Ignacio 66-6.
Cedaredge will host the 3A Western Slope Duals on Friday, Feb. 8.
