Cedaredge High School played two baseball games this past week. One game was at home against Coal Ridge on Tuesday, April 16, and ended in an 8-4 win for the Bruins.
A Saturday trip to Cortez ended in an 8-3 loss to the Panthers.
Bruins 8, Titans 4
Against Coal Ridge, the Bruins eased to an early 1-0 lead after one inning of play and tacked on an additional two runs by the end of the third.
Coal Ridge scored twice in the top of the fourth with the Bruins adding one to their total for a 4-2 Cedaredge lead.
Things got dicey in the fifth and Coal Ridge plated two runs to tie the game at 4-4 with the Bruins coming to bat. Cedaredge mounted a two-run rally of its own and regained the lead at 6-4.
Cedaredge added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 8-4.
Chance Hanson (2-2), Aaron Henrie (2-4), and Garrett Meyers (1-1) provided two RBI performances each. Hanson and Henrie had doubles while Meyers ripped a triple. Peter Williamson contributed two hits as well with another double.
Trent Walker picked up the win.
Panthers 8, Bruins 3
In Cortez, the Bruins fell behind early and could not recover.
The Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning with Cedaredge's first run coming in the top of the second. Cortez scored once in the bottom half of the inning and led 5-1.
Cortez posted three more runs in the bottom of the third for an 8-1 lead and then held on with Cedaredge scoring one run in each of the fifth and seventh innings.
Williamson had a big day at the plate for Cedardge with three hits in four at bats, including two doubles and an RBI. Tylor Beach had a double for an RBI and Henrie was one for three with an RBI.
Chance Hanson took the loss for Cedaredge.
Cedaredge is currently in second place in the 3A WSL. Basalt is on top with a league mark of 10-0 and 10-1 overall. The Bruins have a 7-3 league record and an 8-4 slate overall. Gunnison is third at 6-3 and 7-4 with Olathe fourth with its 7-4 and 7-5 records.
The Bruins are in action again on Saturday, April 27, when they travel to Gunnison for a double-header against the Cowboys. The first pitch for game one is set to be thrown at 11 a.m. Game two is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Cedaredge travels to Paonia for a Tuesday (April 30) contest with the Eagles. That contest is set for 3 p.m. at Volunteer Park.blog comments powered by Disqus
