The 2013 league tournament in volleyball was played for 3A WSL schools over the weekend. Cedaredge High School lost its bid to move on to post-season play with losses to Gunnison and Roaring Fork.
The Lady Bruins did exact revenge on Grand Valley with a 3-0 win on Saturday and upset Rifle 3-0 on Friday.
Cedaredge 3, Rifle 0
The Lady Bruins opened their 3A League tournament play against Rifle on Oct. 25. The Lady Bears, who hosted the tournament, could not stay with Cedaredge and fell 3-0. The Lady Bruins were 3-1 winners back on Sept. 19.
Rifle (fifth seed, 4-5 and 11-12) was outscored by Cedaredge in three straight sets, 25-23, 25-19, and 25-17.
Summer Herman and Kristin Gardner were solid at the net with 11 and 12 kills for the Lady Bruins.
Kendall McHugh dished out 15 assists in the game and Sierra McHugh added another 10. Amber Jenkins led the way in receptions with 16, with teammate Bree Gutierrez receiving 13.
Kenzie Henderson had the teams' best blocking number with three. the top digger for Cedaredge was Gardner with 28, with Jenkins next in line with 25.
GHS 3, Cedaredge 0
Later in the day, Cedaredge took on league leader Gunnison (9-0 and 20-3).
The Lady Cowboys were comfortable winners with scores of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-16.
Herman was the kill-leader for Cedaredge with eight and Gardner had six.
Jenkins had the most digs for the Lady Bruins with 20, with Gardner adding 11 and Gutierrez another 10.
Caylor Albers finished with 18 kills and six blocks for Gunnison.
Cedaredge 3, GV 0
Interesting things occur in high school sports. A week ago, Grand Valley's Lady Cardinals got the best of Cedaredge 3-0.
Last week's 3-0 win over Grand Valley was a reversal that proves anything is possible. Grand Valley (number four; 5-4 and 9-14) found itself on the wrong side of scores. Cedaredge won the opener 25-16 and then held on for a 25-22 win in set two.
The match's most exciting set came in the third contest. Cedaredge stayed with the Lady Cardinals and had the upper hand in a thrilling 31-29 win in set three.
Cedaredge's kill leader in this match was Herman with eight. Gardner and Henderson finished with six each.
The Lady Bruins finished with 11 aces in the match. Gardner had four and Jenkins and Sierra McHugh had three each.
Nellie Freeman had the most blocks for Cedaredge with four. Double-digit dig totals went to Jenkins (19), Gardner (13) and Kendall McHugh (10).
RF 3, CHS 0
Roaring Fork (11-11) finished this match with two seven-point wins (both 25-18) and a much closer victory in set three at 25-23.
Herman was once again the kill leader for Cedaredge with eight and Henderson had five.
Sierra McHugh had three of her team's seven service aces, while Jenkins finished with 26 digs.
The Lady Bruins made the 36-team post-season field and are seeded 33rd. They will play in Region 4 with number four Platte Valley hosting the Bruins and number 21 Peak to Peak.blog comments powered by Disqus
