The Delta Barracuda swim team hosted a season-opening meet on July 5-6 at Bill Heddles Recreation Center. Information from that competition was recently received, with many of the Barracudas team placing in the top five throughout two days of competition.
There were categories of events ranging from age six through 18. Further reports informed the DCI's Sports Department of a championship the local swim club acquired recently.
A number of teams competed in the two-day event in Delta with individuals and relay teams vying for top honors from 25 to 1650 yard competitions.
There were a number of first places in both the girls' and boys' side for the Barracudas. Unofficially, Logan Morris accounted for five of the eight first-places with Landre Whelan and Kenna Kenwood picking up two and one top award, respectively.
For the boys, Nathan Giffin, competing in the 13-14 age division, collected eight first-place awards. Elias Carlson and Joseph Marah (15 and over) were next with four wins apiece. Dustin Ownbey picked up two firsts in relay competition and Noah Nortnik (10 and under) also placed first in two events. James Goff was a winner in the 10 and under division in the 50 yard fly.
Information from the rest of the Barracuda's season will be shared with our readers when it is made available to the DCI Sports Department.
A list of Barracuda swimmers and their places in the July 5-6 meet will appear in next week's issue of the Delta County Independent.blog comments powered by Disqus
