Delta High School's volleyball fortunes are not as expected in 2013. The Lady Panthers are currently 2-6 overall and 0-2 in 4A WSL play following last week's action.
Delta faced Eagle Valley on Monday, Olathe on Tuesday and Palisade on Thursday. All three matches were losses for the Lady Panthers.
EV 3, Delta 0
An early-week match in volleyball with Eagle Valley (2-1, 2-0) was played in Gypsum. There were no stats available from this match, but the Lady Devils won in three straight sets.
Olathe 3, Delta 0
The Olathe Lady Pirates (7-1, 1-0) shut out Delta in volleyball action on Sept. 10. The visiting Pirates scored wins of 25-17, 25-21 and 26-24 to win the non-conference match.
The Pirates got 13 kills from Tori Davis and six from Theresa Tafoya in the win. Davis also had 10 blocks for Olathe.
Palisade 3, Delta 2
Delta looked good in its opening set against Palisade (3-6, 1-1) on Sept. 12 in Delta. The Lady Panthers won the opener 25-21 and then stayed close in a 25-18 loss in the second set of their 4A WSL volleyball meeting with the Bulldogs. The visiting Bulldogs duplicated their second-set victory by the same score in set three and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
Delta bounced back for a 25-16 decision in set four and then lost a heartbreaker in the deciding set five by a 16-14 score.
