Delta High School's cross country team is gaining experience with its younger runners as the season progresses. There hasn't been a great deal of top five finishes this season, but that's not for lack of trying.
Almost all the athletes on this year's roster have steadily improved their times from the start of the season.
Senior Dustin Ownbey began the season with the Delta Invitational and recorded a time of 17.21.70. Sophomore Mykayla Music had a 20:27.40 to place second for the Lady Panthers in the same race. Kaylee Dunham placed third at the Delta Invitational with a time of 22:30.
At Avon, Ownbey was off the pace somewhat and finished 14th. In the girls' division, Music, too, was a bit slower and finished 10th and Dunham was 20th.
Ownbey placed fifth at the Gunnison Invitational and kept his time in the 17-plus minute range in doing so. Music won the Gunnison race and Dunham was 14th.
The Lady Panthers were second in Gunnison and the boys eighth.
Freshman Elias Carlson was the top placer (18th) for Delta's boys at the Hotchkiss Invitational with a time of 21:14.59. Music was third behind Hotchkiss' Natalie and Mae Anderson. Dunham was 12th.blog comments powered by Disqus
