Hotchkiss claimed a 6-1 win over Paonia on March 26, at Paonia. Paonia opened with two losses due to the lack of three and four doubles teams.
Paonia's sole win came at 2 singles. Tyler Rapke defeated Mariah Adams, 6-1, 6-2. At 1 singles, Ciara Beegle upset Paonia's Annavah Kropp in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).
Mandi Chermak won the second set to take Paonia's Lexi Johnson to a tiebreak set. Chermak walked away with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-5 win.
The closest match of the day was at 1 doubles, with Lexey Padilla and Jessie Violett defeating Rosa Medina and Heather Wilczek in a lengthy battle.
The first set was sent to a tiebreaker, which Hotchkiss won, 7-5. Medina and Wilczek claimed a 5-7 win in the second set, and Padilla and Violett lost the third set, 5-7, and finished with a 10-5 tiebreaker win.
At 2 doubles, Bree Vernon and Tijay Lehman won over Jessie Holt and Jeze Fabijanic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
"Just an outstanding night for us against good competition," said Hotchkiss coach Brian Benson.
Hotchkiss will host the Fruita junior varsity squad today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m., at Cleland Park in Delta. They will host a league match Saturday against Vail Mountain School.
Paonia travels to Aspen Thursday. They host Vail Mountain Friday at 4 p.m., and will face Glenwood Springs Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Both home matches will be played at Apple Valley Park.blog comments powered by Disqus
