The Hotchkiss boys' team scored 48 points at the Woodburn Invitational, tying for sixth place with Delta High School.
Cody Bartlett is in prime position to qualify for state.
The returning qualifier in the 800- and 1600-meter runs broke the 2-minute mark in the 800-meter run Saturday, finishing in 1 minute, 59.79 seconds to win the event. Bartlett's time is currently the fastest in Class 2A competition. He's not the only Bulldog sitting high in state rankings in the 800m. Teammates Alex Smith and Andrew Tiedemen placed fifth and seventh respectively. They are currently ranked third and fourth in 2A state competition.
Bartlett, Keegan Palmer, River Panish and Smith teamed up to win the 1600m relay in 3:36.36. Their time is the second-fastest recorded in 2A competition.
Palmer also had a strong showing in the triple jump, clearing 41 feet, 2 inches to place second. He is currently ranked third in state 2A competition.
The 400m sprint relay team of Earl Gaub, Mason Oxford, Caleb Schelle and Trenton Tamayo placed seventh. And the 800m team of Gaub, Palmer, Schelle and Smith finished fourth and topped all 2A teams with a time of 1:37.89. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in state.
Kurt Katzdorn finished seventh in the 3200m run, and eighth in the 1600m. Oxford threw the discus 125 feet, 1 inch to place fifth. Oxford's performance topped all others in Class 2A.blog comments powered by Disqus
