Paonia senior Taylor Polson cut more than a half minute off of her 2012 time to place sixth overall Saturday at the Anna Banana Memorial Wildcat Invitational meet at Connected Lakes State Park. Teammate Chelsea Meilner finished in 20:15, 1 minute, 4 seconds ahead of her 2012 time, to place 15th overall.
Braiden Clement finished in 21:28.6 and Alicia Wilmore (22:28.10) and Noelle Helmer (22:38.8) rounded out scoring for the Eagles. Clement's time was her best finish this season, and Meilner, Polson and Wilmore all set new personal best times.
Paonia scored 55 points to place sixth out of 11 scoring teams.
Jason Sturgis led the Paonia boys at Saturday's Anna Banana cross country meet, finishing the 5000-meter course at Connected Lakes State Park in 17:30.8 to place 22nd. Zach Milner (19:09.5), Tim Helmer (19:23.2), Jesse Reed (19:25.6) and Eli Etter (19:42.10) also scored points for Paonia. Milner, Helmer, Reed and Etter all set new personal best times, and Sturgis, the team's sole senior, ran his best time of the season.
The Eagles finished 10th out of 14 scoring teams.
Paonia will host its first meet this Friday. The Paonia Jumbo Cross Country Invitational begins at 4:30 p.m. with the girls' race. The course starts and finishes at Apple Valley Park and gains roughly 500 feet of elevation in the first 2500 meters.blog comments powered by Disqus
