Marisa Edmondson was the emcee for the sponsor appreciation ceremonies. She introduced other kids who presented mini-speeches about each of the sponsors in attendance at the dinner.
The birthday song that followed was in Italian, in honor of pasta! The program also included the premier of a KPP video produced by Hutman Media and a KPP song by Russ Chapman. Youth volunteers Alexander, Marcos and Marisa also sang a rendition of American Pie they wrote which sums up part of the KPP mission: “My, my this restaurant is fine/ kids and parents work together/ all of the time/ they give money to good causes and make them all shine/ singin’ happy birthday KPP/ happy birthday KPP.” The mission of the Kids’ Pasta Project is for youth to serve the local community by preparing freshly-made, healthy meals, with the profits going to local causes. Where possible, the ingredients for the meals are from local producers and businesses. The project provides the opportunity to learn the value of service to community as well as relevant life skills. A key intention of the organization is for it to be sustainable, adaptable and transferable to any community. Over a hundred volunteers have helped donate over $10,000 to 32 local causes since April of 2009. In plans to continue with the Monday night dinners, special events include welcoming all members of the community to participate, enhancing local partnerships and collaborating with local farmers to bring even more local food to the table. Above all, kids will continue learning the value of service to community! For more information, visit kidspastaproject.org. Upcoming dinners include April 26 in support of North Fork Math and Science Center, May 3 for Creamery Arts Center and June 14 for Girls on the Run.
