Delta resident Jesse C. "J.C." Sanderson died Nov. 23, 2017, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 90.
A memorial service was held Nov. 28 at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Interment followed at Olathe Cemetery.
Mr. Sanderson was born July 18, 1927, to Horress and Mabel (Miller) Sanderson in Wellington, Texas. He spent his childhood and attended school in Montrose.
Mr. Sanderson served in the U.S. Army and was a retired Colorado state patrolman.
On Aug. 1, 1948, he married Vernell Anderson in Aztec, N.M. They moved to Delta 33 years ago from Burlington.
He was a member of the Garnet Mesa Baptist Church in Delta, the Delta Masonic Lodge and the Lee Marts VFW Post.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and doing yard work. He volunteered for many VFW funeral services.
Mr. Sanderson is survived by his wife, Vernell of Delta; son, Richard (Ranee) Sanderson of Westminster; two daughters, Pamela (Larry) Turley of Stratton and Rhonda Pottroff of Meeker; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis, Levoid, Charles, George and Bob; and two sisters, Rita Hilie and Lila McDowell.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
