Delta, Colorado resident, James Edwards, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home with his family beside him. He was 77 years of age.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Eckert Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jim Jesser officiating. Inurnment with full military honors performed by Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, Colorado will be scheduled at a later date.
James was born on Sept. 1, 1939 to Charles and Myrtle Edwards in Gunnison, Colorado. James attended school in Sapinero and Gunnison before the family moved to Grand Junction. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1958.
After graduation, James entered the United States Marine Corps with his brother, Thomas Edwards. He proudly served his country and you often heard him say "Once a Marine, Always a Marine."
James loved the mountains and had the El Rancho Lodge near Silver Jack Reservoir. He met Ann Abendschein from Montrose and they soon married on Nov. 15, 1986, he was the love of her life! They moved to Austin, Colorado where they owned and ran the Austin Country Corner Store. They retired in 1999.
Some of his hobbies were: building and riding dune buggies, motorcycles, snowmobiles; really anything with wheels. He was on the Delta Mosquito Board and was president for two terms. He prized his 1961 Indian motorcycle! Other interests include history of World War II, camping, hunting and animals. He loved his family: and friends. He enjoyed helping others whenever help was needed.
James is survived by his wife, Ann Edwards of the home; two sons: David (Barb) Edwards of Rossville, Georgia, and Michael (Jennifer) Edwards of Grand Junction; his daughter, Michelle (Rick) Kahle of Montrose, Colorado; two sisters: Marjorie Edwards of Grand Junction, Colorado and Mary Lou Barefoot of Walterboro, South Carolina; his inherited by marriage sons: Hector (Bonnie) Fuentes of Boulevard, California; Miguel (Blanca) Fuentes of Baja California, Mexico and Marco (Carla) Fuentes of Ramona, California, brother-in-law David Westerlund of Fruita, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Lisa Edwards of Franktown, Colorado; seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was privileged with several life-long friends: J.D. Warren; Duane Warren; Linda Hubert and Don and Earlene Hickman; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Buddy.
James was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mable Westerlund; a brother, Thomas Edwards; a granddaughter, Michaela Kahle and his parents-in-law, Betty and Irving Abendschein.

The Paonia Town Board of Trustees is considering sanctions against a trustee after he released a series of board-related emails during a recent public meeting.
At the May 9 board meeting, trustee Bill Brunner provided copies of emails, sent during 2016 and 2017, to the media and the town clerk.
