Jim Smith died Jan. 27, 1939, at the age of 79.
He was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Montrose to Edwin and Iris Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Deana; three daughters, Sindy (Don) Bruton, Shelly (Monty) Caldwell and Stacy Martin; eight grandchildren, Trudy (Jared) Gastineau, Vandy (Steve) Moralez, Malory (Dexter) Martin, Jeff (Tia) Caldwell, Jennifer (Terry) Brown, Derek Munyon, Jake (Emily) Martin; and McKenzie (Keefer) Zelinske; 22 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Nancy Felix of Olathe; and extended family.
He worked in the grocery business until 1975 when he went to work for Mountain Bell, now known as Century Link. He retired from there in 2001.
For the past four years, he wintered in Mesa, Ariz., and spent the summers in Colorado with his daughter, Shelly and husband Monty. Due to health concerns, they recently moved back to Colorado permanently to live with Monty and Shelly in Montrose.
Mr. Smith was an avid pickleball player, playing almost every day for two to four hours. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, including golf, as well as fishing and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his brother Don and a nephew.

A memorial service will be held at Bill Heddles Recreation Center in Delta Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m. Please remain after the memorial service to visit with family and have a bite to eat.
