John Thomas Morris died March 7, 2017, at Delta County Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was 95.
He was born in Comanche, Okla., on July 4, 1921, to Thomas Morris and Mae Amy Duval. He grew up during the Great Depression on a farm in rural Oklahoma.
Mr. Morris served in the Navy during World War II. He was in the Pacific Theater on the minesweeper USS Advent from 1942 to 1945.
In 1946, he married Fredrica Venable in Anchorage, Alaska. She died in 2014.
Mr. Morris graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1949. He taught math and history for School District #2 in Colorado Springs and coached football until he retired in 1985.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Deer Creek Village Golf Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Juanona Bennet; sons, William and David; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
