Cedaredge resident Kathleen Westlake died Sept. 24, 2017, in Wheat Ridge. She was 91.
She was born in Butte, Mont., to Kathryn and Jesse Kateron on Nov. 13, 1925. She spent her childhood on the Kateron Homestead in Wyoming. She later moved with her family to Careywood, Idaho. After graduating from high school she attended the University of Idaho in Moscow.
Mrs. Westlake enjoyed the outdoors, jeeping on Grand Mesa and collecting antique bottles with her husband. She was an active member of the ESA sorority and served as a volunteer at its regional center in Grand Junction. She also volunteered at the Delta County Memorial Hospital, Pioneer Town and the Senior Center in Cedaredge.
She is survived by her children, Danetta (Ken) Aggus, Donald Rutherford and Gerald (Kathy) Rutherford; two stepchildren, Cathy and Dorian Westlake; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Westlake.
A celebration of life will be held in Cedaredge in November.
Malesich and Shirey Funeral Home & Colorado Crematory handled the arrangements.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
