• The Delta County Fair is Aug. 5-12. VIP wristbands are on sale now at the Delta County Extension Office.
The Delta County Fair & Rodeo is looking for young ladies between the ages of 9-18 who are interested in serving as fair royalty for the 2018-19 year. These young ladies will serve as ambassadors for the Delta County Fair throughout the year.
The Delta County Fair and Rodeo royalty court has been very busy representing Delta County at a variety of events. Queen Tess Gore and princess Annie Wilson attended the Western Slope Royalty Clinic in October.
The return of the Delta County Fair's annual Demolition Derby last August following a three-year absence attracted 15 entries, large crowds, and a very unexpected new derby champion.
Madison Milner and her 1996 Subaru Outback decked out as a Minion from the "Despicable Me" movies outlasted all other vehicles, most made during the bygone era of solid steel muscle cars, to win the derby title and the $2,000 grand prize.

The Delta County Fair wasn't always in Hotchkiss. The Colorado Historical Newspaper website reveals that the first official Delta County Fair was held in September of 1897 in Delta.
The Delta County Fair hits full stride this week, with livestock shows, Heritage Hall exhibits, rodeos, a concert, coronation of the 2017 fair royalty and the junior market livestock sale.
The fairgrounds in Hotchkiss have been hopping for several days.
When grand marshal Richard Bailey rides through downtown Hotchkiss in the Delta County Fair parade this Aug. 12, he'll ride in a carriage pulled by a team of Brabant red roan draft horses.

Between fashion revues and shooting sports competitions, animal weigh-ins and other events, kids in Delta County are in a flurry of activity, fine tuning and tweaking their exhibits in the hopes of bringing home the big prize.

After a three-year hiatus the popular Demolition Derby is returning to the Delta County Fair.
Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss, the derby promises a great night of mayhem and destruction. The event includes a car division and a truck division, plus an ATV Barrel Challenge.

Rodeo action is heating up in western Colorado. The Delta Area Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets for the Deltarado Days rodeo Saturday, July 29, which will include a free concert by Derringer at the conclusion of competition.
The Delta County 4-H Council met June 12 at the Maloney House and the discussion was focused on the upcoming county fair.

Eight-year-old Aniya Corona is battling brain cancer, but she's not alone. She's supported by medical professionals, concerned friends and loving family members, all of whom make up "Team Aniya."

Looking back on the year, 2015-2016 Delta County Fair & Rodeo Queen Rachel Huerkamp said that while being ambassador for Delta County and the fair was challenging, she is grateful for the opportunity.
Huerkamp is the daughter of Peggy and Dave Huerkamp of Delta.
Landowners are invited to the "Pasture Management Self-Guided Tour" during the 2016 Delta County Fair, scheduled Aug. 6-13 at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss. The plot is located on the southeast corner of the fairgrounds by the river.
The 2016 Junior Market Livestock Sale is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the fairgrounds in Hotchkiss. Plan to attend and support the efforts of area 4-H and FFA youth by purchasing quality market livestock animals over the auction block.
After completing his showmanship pattern Saturday at the Delta County Fair Horse Show, Jayden Braslin led his horse, Malibu, out of the arena. He was carrying a red ribbon, but that's not what he was hoping for.
It's fair to say that Frances Hunt knows about the hours and hours it takes to grow beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables. "If you do a good job in the garden, it's time-consuming," said Hunt.
Over the last 40-plus years, Hunt has spent countless hours weeding, watering, planting and planning in preparation for entering her flowers, fruits and vegetables in the annual Delta County Fair, and she has a lot of ribbons to show for it.
The Delta County Fair opened last Saturday with some thrilling endurocross action at the Delta County Fairgrounds in Hotchkiss.
Montrose Motomayhem put on the second annual event, which featured motos for kids in the afternoon and for pros and adults in the evening.
The Delta County Fair has something for everybody. Just take a look at the evening events -- a nonstop lineup of endurocross, team roping, barrel racing, mutton bustin' and on Friday, live music.
Parade grand marshals are Les and Dorothy Mergelman. Both are multi-generational residents of western Colorado.
Where can you go to watch dirt bikers maneuver their bikes around obstacles, catch two nights of mutton bustin', cowboy up for Rodeo Night, ooh and ahh at a fashion show, pick your favorite at an antique tractor pull, scoot your boots to some live music, watch a tail waggin' good dog show, get your hands on some great food, grab the perfect spot to watch a parade, and maybe meet the queen? Why the Delta County Fair, that's where!
