Third annual Ridgway bass tournament set for July 7-30

The third annual smallmouth bass tournament at Ridgway State Park is scheduled for July 7-30, giving anglers nearly a month to fill their creels and to vie for more than $8,000 in prizes.

No entry fee is required for the tournament and the more smallmouth bass anglers catch, the better their chances of winning prizes.

The Hotchkiss National Fish Hatchery Kids Fishing Derby is back! The event was cancelled in 2016 due to removal of the fish from the facility, but the fish hatchery staff is eager to get the annual event back on track.

The event is set for Saturday, June 10, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Volunteer Park, one mile west of Paonia on Mathews Lane.

Fish salvage on Grand Mesa lake

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has authorized an emergency fish salvage at Big Eggleston Lake on the Grand Mesa starting Saturday, Aug. 6. The lake is being drained so that repairs can be made to a dam outlet structure.
