Since the earliest settlers moved into Delta County it has relied on two major forces to drive its economy: energy and agriculture. Solar Energy International (SEI) has honored this heritage by introducing Solarize, a community-based outreach campaign to keep the energy-producing heritage alive.
Solarize Delta County Farms is teaming up with the Colorado Energy Office and the Colorado Department of Agriculture to host a presentation for agricultural producers in Delta County on state energy efficiency programs and renewable energy financing. The event will be at Heritage Hall in Hotchkiss on June 14 at 7 p.m.
Solar Energy International (SEI) is launching a third and final round of Solarize, which is an educational community outreach program aimed at kickstarting a solar market in a region. Solarize has been successful in introducing 42 new solar systems to the region and garnering nearly $1 million in local investments, and now SEI is building off of past momentum and shifting its focus to major contributors to the Delta County economy: farms and businesses.
The sun has set on the recent Solarize campaign, but the future of the solar market in Delta County is bright. Results of this program revealed that as a community, Delta County invested $500,000 in 150 kW of solar energy, achieving the $500 mark in a tiered rebate system.
A community outreach program aimed at adding to the more than 325 existing net-metered solar homes between DMEA and the City of Delta is about to sunset. Solarize Delta County's three-month educational campaign and enrollment period, aimed at driving down the cost of solar photovoltaic systems through a community group purchase program, is set to end July 15.
Installers from Empowered Energy Systems, LLC of Hotchkiss just finished the first installation in a series of new solar PV systems springing up around Delta County. A brand new 25 kilowatt commercial system now sits atop workspace solutions ProSpace's roof in Delta.
