Vision Charter Academy awarded School Health Professional Grant

On Aug. 17, Vision Charter Academy's application for the School Health Professional Grant Program was approved by the State Board of Education for Year 1 funding in the amount of $80,000. The School Health Professional Grant (SHPG) program is designed to provide funds to eligible education providers to enhance the presence of school health professionals in their secondary schools.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) has approved funding for ditch companies to defray the cost of engineering services retained to prepare 2017 USBR Salinity FOA project applications.

Applications are to be submitted to the Delta Conservation District with selection review to be coordinated with CWCB and the Gunnison Basin Salinity Coordinator.

Mountain bikers awarded REI trail grant

Delta County Area Mountain Bikers will receive $5,000 from REI for trails in Dominguez Escalante National Conservation Area west of Delta. The Delta chapter of COPMOBA, DAMB, plans to use the money for the design of a proposed non-motorized trail system in the NCA known as the Escalante Triangle.

Two meetings are planned for farmers interested in money to install high efficiency irrigation systems on their property through the Lower Gunnison Project. Grants will help mission of North Fork Creative Coalition

The North Fork Valley Creative Coalition (NFVCC) has been awarded two grants for projects to be completed in 2017 from the Colorado Tourism Office and the Orton Family Foundation.

The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) awarded NFVCC $25,000 through its 2017 Marketing Matching Grant Program for the purpose of promoting the region as a tourism destination. The grant is competitive and was awarded to 30 nonprofits in Colorado this year.

The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Board has awarded two grants totaling $103,000 to Delta County projects.

The City of Delta received a $75,000 planning grant to develop its first parks, recreation, open space and trails master plan, and the Town of Cedaredge received a $28,000 mini grant for improvements to and an extension of Surface Creek Trail.

$130,000 in scholarships, grants awarded in 2016

The Western Colorado Community Foundation (WCCF) announced recent grant awards totaling $9,000 to nonprofits serving Delta County from its Western Colorado Community Fund. Grants from the community fund combined with funding from the foundation's donor-advised and scholarship funds totaled over $130,000 investment in Delta County by WCCF in 2016.

The Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) board awarded Delta County a $100,000 trail planning grant last week as part of GOCO's new Connect Initiative trail planning grant program.

The City of Delta is applying for a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant to fund a master plan for the city's parks, trails and open space. If a $75,000 planning grant is awarded, it will be matched by $50,000 from the city's Conservation Trust Fund.

El Pomar Foundation is accepting applications from 501(c)(3) organizations and public entities for up to $25,000 to purchase new or used vehicles to aid in nonprofit operations. The grant must cover the entire purchase price of the vehicle.

USDA seeks applications for energy loans and grants

USDA Rural Business-Cooperative Service Administrator Sam Rikkers recently encouraged rural small businesses and agricultural producers to apply for loans and grants to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

"These projects create long-term, economic benefits for businesses and rural communities," Rikkers said.

Grants sought for trail work

The Town of Cedaredge is hoping for grant money to help with needed work on a section of walking trail that Deer Creek Village Homeowners have offered to deed to the town.

The trustees approved a town grant application to GOCO for $28,000 of an estimated $40,000 "phase I" initiative to "improve, connect, and extend" the Surface Creek Trail.

The City of Delta has received a $100,000 grant to fund a study of riverfront development. Funding is provided by the Rural Economic Development Initiative, which assists cities and counties that are, or could be, socially and/or economically impacted by the closure of a local large employer.
