Photo submitted Larry Dumler of Cedaredge earned "People's Choice" for an oil/acrylic titled "Mamaa Simba Maacai Mara."

A very successful 45th annual Edge of the Cedars Art Show sponsored by Zeta Omicron Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority has been completed. Ninety-two artists exhibited a total of 256 entries which included paintings, photography, sculpture, pottery, stained glass and an open category. Attesting to the quality of work exhibited, 70 different entries received votes for the People's Choice Award. In addition to ribbons, a total of 21 monetary awards ranging from $25 to $200 were given. The total amount of cash awarded was $1,200. This was made possible by the generous donations received from sponsors.

Zeta Omicron also presented $500 scholarships to Taniall Scroggins and Alexeea "Lexee" Wilson, both 2017 Cedaredge High School graduates. Taniall is enrolled at Colorado Mesa University with plans to become a high school art teacher. Alexeea will be going to Colorado State University and will study to become a veterinarian.

Judge for this year's show was Cynthia Duff. She is a Colorado native who was raised to appreciate nature, music and the arts. She studied and worked in the commercial arts designing marketing packages for clients. Her passion for painting grew while raising her children in Nebraska where the sand hill cranes stop during their migration north. She studied and painted the cranes in an expressionistic way which developed the style you see in her work today. She has created bent paintings of birch wood using a staining technique to reveal the wood's beauty in the art. She has created posters for a number of events including Powderhorn Resort's Telefest. Duff has works in public and private collections around the world. Her current works are shown in galleries in New York, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, Arizona and in Colorado in Breckenridge, Vail, Grand Junction and Palisade.
