Delta resident, Lloyd Raymond "Ray" Short passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at his residence in Delta, Colo. He was 95 years old.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the First Baptist Church in Cedaredge, Colo.
Lloyd Raymond Short was born March 2, 1922, to Lloyd E. and Jean C. (Fall) Short in Gilman, Colo. He spent his childhood and attended schools in the North Fork area. When Ray was 17 he enrolled in the Redvale Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC Camp) to help provide for his family. After Ray was honorably discharged from the CCC, he went on to join the United States Army where he proudly served his country during World War II.
On Dec. 18, 1948, Ray married Cepha Owens. The couple lived in Telluride for most of their married life sharing 35 years of marriage before Cepha's passing.
Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, helping family and friends, jeeping and visiting with the many customers and employees of Delta Walmart. Ray will be forever remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Ray is survived by his brother, Donald Short; his many nieces and nephews; and his guardian angel, Christene Ingram.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Cepha; brothers, Earl, Jack, Bob and Wayne; and sisters, Margie, Clarabelle, Rita and Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Ray's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.

Two fatal accidents occurred in Delta County within a two-day span last week.
Casey Gillenwater, 25, of Delta was killed the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 13, in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 133 outside of Hotchkiss.
