Arla Nelson of Delta competed during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December 2016 with her team, the Dynamite Dames. The Dames roped the coveted first place spot in the specialty acts division and two other team members placed in individuals.
In April 2016, Arla Nelson, daughter of Ki and Gwen Nelson, traveled to join the Dynamite Dames trick riding team in Texas. She spent the summer traveling to various rodeos and performing around the region. In August the team competed in a Las Vegas qualifier and won, giving them a ticket to the trick riding finals in December. The girls performed at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Dec. 5 and at Horsemans Park on Dec. 6. The winners received belt buckles, prize money and an invitation to the 2017 championship.

Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
