Lucie (Ankenman) Shrader was born to Edith and Nelson Ankenman April 22, 1929, in Crawford, Colo., on the Ankenman Homestead. Later, the family moved to Delta where she attended Delta High School, graduating in 1947. The following year she attended Mesa College in Grand Junction.
On April 4, 1948, she married Stewart Shrader and began a long and happy life with him. After a short time in Delta and Hawthorne, Nev., they made Orofino, Idaho, home. There they raised four children alongside family and friends.
Lucie and Stewart returned to Delta in 1972. She worked at the Ideal Laundry and Delta County Memorial Hospital. She continued to work at the hospital even after they purchased the laundry. She retired from the hospital after about 25 years of service.
Lucie enjoyed family, friends, quilting, gardening, writing letters, and flowers. Her special favorite were her orchids. She is survived by one sister, Mildred Thompson (Gerry) of Montrose, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Frank Pace (Gloria) of Delta, Colo.; four children: Loy Viers (John) of Orofino, Idaho, Barbara O'neill (Charles) of Montrose, Colo., Nelson Shrader (Sally) of Cedaredge, Colo., and Roberta Bruhn (Keith) of Silt, Colo. She enjoyed visiting and spending time with cousins, numerous nieces and nephews, an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and extended family.
There will be a picnic at Cleland Park for any who would like to attend and bring memories, June 23, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
