Delta resident Margaret Monica Gerd died March 11, 2017, at her home. She was 85.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the VA Cemetery in Grand Junction.
She was born Oct. 20, 1931, to William Lloyd and Margaret Maher in North Platte, Neb., where she spent her childhood. She played professional softball when she was 16 and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1957.
She married Donald Gerd when she was 20.
She was the senior manager for all Jeffco R-1 school cafeterias and served as a senior EMT for the Conifer Ambulance Service. She was senior manager of her own company, D Gerd Trucking & Excavating.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting the country and planting flowers. She especially enjoyed yellow roses.
She is survived by her son, Don Gerd; one granddaughter, Chelsea; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gerd; her son, David Gerd; and six brothers.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
