Marian Kay Balch of Grand Junction died Dec. 8, 2016. She was 78.
Graveside services will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Hotchkiss on May 13 at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Balch was born Nov. 15, 1938, to William and Ruth (Sylvester) Balch at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Hotchkiss High School and attended Mesa College. She worked for an auto dealership in Hotchkiss and then did clerical and bookkeeping work in Hotchkiss, Grand Junction, Denver and Anchorage, Alaska.
She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and former member of the Hotchkiss Emblem Club and several other clubs. She enjoyed doing volunteer work and volunteered at Grand Villa Assisted Living and Time Bank.
Mrs. Balch enjoyed being with people, walking, going to the fitness club, watching the Denver Broncos and spending time with family.
She is survived by two nieces, Kim Baker and Judy Scheffel; and one nephew, John Scheffel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Lynette Scheffel.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
