Dr. Melvin K. Beach died at Colorow Care Center in Olathe on March 8, 2017. He was 99.
Graveside services were held March 11 at the Delta City Cemetery with Pastors Howard Cowan and Adam Beach officiating.
He was born in Delta Aug. 28, 1917, to Floyd and Dora (Klepper) Beach. He graduated from Delta High School in 1935 and went to Colorado A & M College (Colorado State University in Fort Collins) and earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1941.
Dr. Beach worked for the Bureau of Animal Industry in Bismarck, N.D. He returned to Delta in 1944 and opened the only veterinary practice in Delta County. He sold the practice three years later to Dr. James Smylie. He then went into the cattle business with his father and continued ranching until his retirement.
On May 15, 1955, he married Eleanor Ensley in Delta.
Dr. Beach was a member of the Colorado Cattlemen's Association and was an active member of his church for 47 years. He enjoyed being a Christian.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Beach of Delta; son, Dr. Don (Susan) Beach of Moulton, Ala.; two daughters, Melanie (Gene) Bollig and Rebecca "Becky" (Kelly) Scates, all of Delta; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mellie Gavin, Josephine Gore and infant sister, Coral Beach.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, alcohol is suspected in an accident that killed a 16-year-old Delta boy and injured three others June 11. The accident occurred on Highway 65 just a short distance from the Highway 92 intersection at about 1:35 a.m.
