Cedaredge resident Morty Baran died Oct. 6, 2017, while visiting his daughter in Massachusetts. He was 81.
He was born in Bronx, N.Y., on Aug. 6, 1936.
He moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in the early 1970s to work in film and advertising. He worked for Jay Chiat and Lee Clow at Chait/Day. In the late 1980s he moved to Richmond, Va., to work for The Martin Agency. He served as head of the TV broadcast department.
In 2003, he retired to his 70-acre ranch in Hotchkiss. In 2014, he and his wife Amy helped open 4B's Brewery in Cedaredge and they recently finished building their dream home in Cedaredge.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Amy; children, David, Daniel and Mindy; and four grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in June 2018.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
