Kristopher Urbin was sworn in as an officer of the Paonia Police Department at the April 10 town board meeting. Urbin grew up in the Grand Junction area and is a graduate of Palisade High School. He attended the Western Colorado Community College Peace Officer and Police Academy in Grand Junction and graduated in December. Urbin said he's happy to be in Paonia.
Urbin is currently undergoing Field Training Officer certification. Police Chief Neil Ferguson said he is expected to complete training quickly, since he already has a good working knowledge of the town, the reporting system and his duties. "We're excited to have him," said Ferguson. "He's going to be a good fit for the area."
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
