Donald C. Abeyta, 26, of Delta was arrested and jailed Jan. 5.
At the time of the arrest Abeyta was removed from a closet in the residence where he had been hiding. When officers tried to place Abeyta in restraints he allegedly resisted arrest, assaulting police officers multiple times. Once Abeyta was cuffed he was placed into the prisoner compartment of a patrol vehicle. Abeyta began to bang his head into the barrier between the front seat and the prisoner compartment of the vehicle resulting in a wound on his forehead.
Abeyta was transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital for evaluation and medical attention. Once cleared from the hospital, Abeyta was transported to Delta County Jail where he was booked in on charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, second degree assault on a peace officer, third degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and criminal mischief.
