With one week remaining in regular season cross country competition, the Delta Panthers opted to travel to Rifle last week to take part in the Rifle Invitational.
Delta's John Ames clocked a 17:00.90 and placed third in boys division standings. The Panther cross country leader didn't set a new personal best but is okay with his results. Ames' best time (16:50) for the season came at the Oct. 6 Pantherfest Invitational at Confluence Park in Delta.
Shad Lewis was 33rd at Rifle with a time of 18:14.20. His best time so far this season was 17:24 at the Pantherfest.
Issac Vader placed 77th in Rifle with a time of 19:26.60. Vader has a 19:13 at this year's Pantherfest to mark his best showing of the season.
Andrew Toole finished in 21:10.60 to place 134th out of 200 runners. So far this season, Toole's best time is 20:39 which he established at Sweitzer Lake on Sept. 29.
On the girls side of Delta cross country, Aubree Andre continued her top finishes for the Panther girls with a 46th-place finish in Rifle with a time of 22:19.50. Andre's best time of the season came at Sweitzer Lake on Sept. 29 when she finished with a time of 21:29.
Delta's next runner to finish the race was Grace Hall. Her 23:27.60 was not the best time for the season. She had a 21:39 at this year's Pantherfest on Oct. 6 at Confluence Park.
Abby Williams was Delta's third qualifying time in Rifle. She posted a time of 24:15.50 in Rifle and has a season-best 23:18 set at Sweitzer Lake.
Hana Hollenbeck's best time of the year came at the Pantherfest (23:21). Last week's time in Rifle was 25:02.90 marking Delta's fourth-place finisher.
Lucy Streich was the Panthers' fifth-place finisher in a time of 25:52.70. Her 24:45 at Pantherfest has been Streich's best time of the season.
Regional competition, for both boys and girls, is set for this Friday at Confluence Park.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
