A slight breeze warded off some of the heat at Cottonwood Field where Delta's Panthers swarmed all over the field on their way to a dominating 6-0 victory.
Sophomore Martin Corral, last year's leading scorer for Delta, continued his scoring prowess with a pair of goals in the win. He also dished out an assist.
Bradley Davis and Jose Pantoja also contributed assists.
The Panthers started slow but generated enough pressure and solid execution to net three goals in the first half. Brandon Harper scored first for Delta with Dah Wah finding the net for Delta's second score. Sophomore Alex Fausto stole a pass near the Cortez penalty box and converted a solo dash to the net with Delta's third score of the first half.
Three more scores came in the second half with Corral scoring twice and Marcos Edmondson picking up the third score of the second half for Delta.
The Panthers had 23 shots on goal in the match.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
