The Town of Paonia is seeking a citizen resident to serve on the town Planning and Zoning Commission. Formerly the Planning Commission, the P&Z commission was created last December when town trustees approved the merger of the Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Planning Commission.
With building projects anticipated to come before the town and the commission in the near future, "It's something we need to act on relatively quickly," said Mayor Charles Stewart at the April 24 town board meeting.
The Planning Commission is required by town code to be made up of one town trustee, the mayor, and three citizens appointed by the mayor. The new appointee will replace newly elected town trustee, Mary Bachran, who formally resigned at the meeting. They will join current commissioners Barb Heck and Dave Knutson; trustee Bill Bear will continue to represent the board on the commission.
The town is also seeking letters of interest for a tree board member after current board chair Sam Hart was elected as a trustee in April. Hart resigned as chair and volunteered to serve as trustee overseer of the tree board.
Deadline for submitting letters of interest or a volunteer interest forms, available on the town website under the "Government" tab, is May 16, with appointments to be made at the May 22 board meeting. Applicants for the commission must reside within town limits; tree board applicants do not need to reside within town limits.
