The 12th annual Paonia Summer Duals wrestling camp opens Saturday, June 9, at Paonia High School. Roughly 250 wrestlers representing 16 teams from Colorado, Arizona and Wyoming are expected to attend this year's camp, said Paonia wrestling coach Nate Wiggins. The numbers are down due to competition from football camps, which in the past have traditionally been held in August.
Most of the wrestlers, coaches and their families camp out on school grounds and will begin arriving later this week. Weigh-ins will be held Friday night, and duals run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Because not all schools bring a full team, some of the teams will be combined. Admission is free and concessions are available.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
