The Paonia Eagles upped their winning streak to nine games last week, beginning Sept. 26 with a 25-9, 25-16, 25-8 win over Vail Christian. Senior Mckenna Palmer led in serve receives with 16, and in kills with 14. Randi Rapke had 14 digs and six kills. Carly Horn had 12 assists, Poppy Lightfoot had nine assists and Kassidy Rapke had eight assists.
On Friday, Paonia battled to a 3-2 win over Cedaredge (see related story).
In Saturday's match at De Beque (7-3, 3-3, 1A WSL), the Dragons also made Paonia work for its 3-2 (19-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 15-10) conference win. Palmer completed 19 kills in 44 attacks, Horn scored five aces in 28 serve attempts, and Randi Rapke had 29 of the team's 90 digs. Lightfoot had 26 assists. McKenna Johnson had 17 digs, Palmer 15, Horn 14, and Lightfoot eight.
Paonia had 13 serve receive errors and seven serve errors.
The Eagles ended the week with an 11-1 overall, 7-0 conference record. Rangely and Meeker also remain undefeated in conference play.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
