Four Paonia High School student-athletes and two head coaches were nominated to participate in the annual Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games June 6-10.
All team coaches and senior athletes who participate in the games are nominated and voted on by CHSCA member coaches.
Sophia Anderson was one of five western slope seniors selected to play basketball. Anderson, a point guard who is committed to play at Colorado Mesa University, led the Lady Eagles to a state title last March. Anderson was also named to the all-state first team and was named Class 2A Player of the Year.
Colby Simpson and Dagan Rienks competed in all-state basketball.
Trevor Smith, who signed to play at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, represented the South team in football.
Paonia boys head coach Chase Roeber and girls head coach Scott Rienks were both selected to coach the basketball games.
The CHSCA games also include softball, wrestling, spirit, cross country and volleyball.
At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
