On the morning of June 8, a family member spotted the body of Bryan Reim a short way downstream from where he had jumped into the potholes on June 3.
Reim, 35, of Delta was enjoying the area with friends and relatives when he jumped into a pool and failed to resurface. Delta Search and Rescue, and Delta Fire searched the immediate area. Mesa County Search and Rescue and a dive team from Grand Junction joined the attempt to recover Reim's body but were unable to do so due to the deep, fast-flowing water in Escalante Creek.
On Thursday morning, sheriff's deputies, Delta Search and Rescue and West Elk Search and Rescue brought the body out of the canyon and released it to the Delta County coroner.
A celebration of life is planned at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Memorial contributions can be made to Delta County Search and Rescue, 555 Palmer Street, Delta, CO 81416.
