The Hotchkiss girls 800-meter sprint medley relay team posted its season-best time of 1 minute, 54.46 seconds to win silver at the 2A/3A Western Slope League track meet. Hotchkiss also took silver in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.52. The 4x400 team of Margaret Parsons, Elsie Vasquez, Morgan Miller and Jordan Tamayo placed fifth. The 4x100 team took silver with a time of 51.52 and the 4x200 team finished sixth,
Kaiya Firor, the top-ranked Class 2A runner in the 400-meter dash, anchors the medley relay team. In the 300m hurdles she won silver with a personal-best time of 47.41 seconds.
Firor is ranked second in state 2A competition in the 300 hurdles behind Soroco's Mattie Rossi, who won the event in 47.35.
Firor also cleared 4 feet, 9 inches to finish fourth in the high jump competition.
In other individual events, Fatima Rodriguez placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.82 seconds. Shay Glaser placed fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.44, and Yasmine Gaub placed sixth in the 300m hurdles (53.05). Jordan Tamayo placed eighth in the 800m run.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
