Austin resident Ronald C. Johnson died May 14, 2017, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. He was 77.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta.
Mr. Johnson was born on Jan. 27, 1940, to Clell and Genevieve (Lawson) Johnson in St. Louis, Mo. He graduated from Granby High School in 1958.
On Aug. 13, 1961, he married Judy Ann Burnett. They moved from Gypsum to Austin in 2006.
Mr. Johnson was an member of the Assembly of God and the Western Sportsman and Moose Lodge in Greeley.
As a heavy equipment operator, he worked on the Eisenhower Tunnel, Crawford Dam and other construction projects throughout Colorado.
He was an avid fisherman and golfer who also enjoyed hunting, traditional country and bluegrass music, and spending time with family.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Johnson; a son, James (Perlita) Johnson of Marysville, Wash.; a daughter, Rhonda (Quinn) Sandness of Delta; brother, David (Janet) Johnson of Goss-ville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Sean Johnson, Mariah Johnson, Shane Zehrbach and Ashley Zehrbach; and one great-grandson, Jaxson Zehrbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
